OBO Bettermann

In 1911, farmer Franz Bettermann founded a small company in Hüingsen Menden, which specialized in the production of brassware and metal processing and with which Bettermann became a supplier to the lighting industry in the area. Shortly thereafter, however, the founder left this company to become the sole owner of a stamping shop producing fastening materials for electrical and plumbing installations.
In 1932, Bettermann took a decisive step forward as an expert in modern installation and fastening technology by combining metal and plastic production.

In 1944, in the middle of the war years, Franz Bettermann, now 65 years old, handed over the management of the company to his three sons. In the same year, the factory was almost completely destroyed by the war. Reconstruction was completed the following year thanks to the fortunate circumstance that most of the company's machinery had been moved out before the war began. It was also during this time that the name OBO Bettermann came into being. OBO stands for "without drilling" and can be traced back to the metal dowels invented in 1952, which can simply be driven into the wall without pre-drilling.
