DEHN - Facts, figures and data

DEHN is an internationally active family business in the field of electrical engineering. With over 1,100 patents, the company is an innovation leader in the fields of safety at work, surge and lightning protection.
DEHN employs more than 2,400 people worldwide and has no less than 20 foreign subsidiaries and trading partners active in more than 70 countries. In addition to the high quality standards and the consistent response to market and customer requirements, the company's success and steady growth are based on almost 115 years of experience:

On January 21, 1910, Hans Dehn registered a trade for the "installation of electrical systems" in Nuremberg. In 1918, Dehn was granted its first patent for an idea for a new type of lightning protection component.

As early as 1923, lightning protection systems and components for lightning protection and earthing became an integral part of the company's business activities alongside the installation of electrical systems. 10 years later, in 1933, Hans Dehn transfers part of the company responsibility to his sons Walter and Willy. The family business trades under the name DEHN & SÖHNE. In 1921, the youngest son Richard also becomes co-owner.

The company building is badly damaged during the Second World War. In 1945, the family began to rebuild the company before finally moving the production site from Nuremberg to Neumarkt in 1948.

I1952, the product range for lightning protection and earthing was exhibited for the first time at the Hanover Trade Fair. With the start of development activities in the field of "short-circuiting and earthing", DEHN laid the foundation for today's product area of occupational safety. At the end of the year, founder Hans Dehn dies and the company is completely taken over by his three sons.

In 1954, DEHN is the first manufacturer worldwide to launch a surge arrester for low voltage, the J250. This lays the foundation for today's largest product group in surge protection. In the same year, the company begins its export business with a foreign representative in Austria.

From 1979 to 1981, the company launches an innovation on the market with the BLITZDUCTOR. The surge arrester offers protection for I&C and data technology. In 1981, the three brothers retire from the company. Responsibility is transferred to Hans-Joachim and Thomas Dehn and Peter Hasse.

In 1984, DEHN develops the world's first lightning current arrester DEHNventil VGA280. In 1986, a small revolution in surge protection is achieved: the VM280, the world's first arrester with a 17.5 mm modular design, is launched.

In 2003, DEHN also achieved a milestone in external lightning protection with the invention of the patented HVI Conductor.
In 2004, the two managing directors step down and hand over the technical division to Peter Zahlmann.

At Light+Building in Frankfurt in 2006, a uniform family face is presented for the majority of the ÜSS types. The new product design turns out to be a great success.

In 2011, Philipp Dehn, the fourth generation, joins the company as managing partner. Just two years later, his father, Thomas Dehn, retired from the operational business and Helmut Pusch joined the management team.
Finally, at the beginning of 2016, Christian Köstler completes the foursome at the helm of the company.

In the same year, the maintenance-free DEHNshield ZP combined arrester fulfills all requirements for the now mandatory surge protection in residential buildings in accordance with standards and thus contributes significantly to the company's continued success.

In 2018, DEHNguard ACi is launched on the market and eliminates the need for an upstream fuse thanks to the advanced ACI technology. In the same year, Peter Zahlmann retires after 26 years and is succeeded by Thomas Schöpf.

On July 1, 2019, the company changes its name to DEHN SE + Co. The suffix "Söhne" is dropped due to the umlaut, which is problematic in the international business field.

BLITZDUCTORconnect is launched on the market in 2020 and protects MCR circuits, BUS and telecommunications systems against overvoltage or lightning damage.
On November 1 of the same year, Christian Höhler is appointed Chief Technology Officer.

Another milestone in 2021: DEHNventil is launched in a new, slim design and with a compact single module and integrated FM contact.
The company also celebrates its 111th anniversary.

Another name change at the beginning of 2022: DEHN SE + Co. KG becomes DEHN SE. Florian Bohlmann is also appointed Chief Financial Officer.
