E14 LED

Two thread types for lamps are particularly common in this country: E27 and E14. E14 describes the narrower screw base. Light sources with an E14 base are mainly used in smaller, filigree luminaires.
As E14 is a standard base, you will find countless different versions of suitable lamps for your E14 socket.

Incidentally, the letter "E" stands neither for "energy" nor for "electrical". It simply refers to the inventor of the light bulb: Thomas Edison. The "14" describes the diameter of the lamp base: 14 millimetres.
However, this is only rounded up, as strictly speaking the diameter is between 13.6 and 13.9 mm.

Use and versions of E14 lamps

A light source with an E14 screw thread requires a corresponding E14 socket for the respective light source. Due to its popularity, you will find all types of lamps with the small base, whereby E14 LED is clearly gaining ground due to its high efficiency and long service life:

Advantages of E14 LEDs

LED has long been the standard - and not without good reason. Of all the technologies, light-emitting diodes are the most economical and long-lasting variant. The slightly higher purchase costs are quickly amortized thanks to the high energy efficiency and long service life.
Converting to E14 LEDs is therefore worthwhile. Thanks to the many different shapes and interesting features, you are sure to find the right LED replacement for you.

Typical designs of E14 light sources

By far the most common form of E14 LED is the candle shape. This design is comparatively thin and tapers towards the front, which is why it can be a decorative element in itself. Candle lamps cover all wattage ranges from 1 watt to 7 watts. 

The globe or drop shape, which closely resembles a conventional light bulb, is also widespread. In some models, the LEDs are arranged in such a way that they trace the course of a filament of a classic light bulb, making them look very similar. 

E14 LEDs in tubular form are particularly slim and are often used in extractor hoods or as refrigerator bulbs. 

Finally, the reflector design should also be mentioned. In these models, a reflector mirror is fitted in the housing, which means that the light emitted is not scattered so much in the room. On the other hand, reflectors allow precise positioning of the light cone.

Features of modern E14 LED light sources

LED light sources are at the cutting edge of technological development. They have many practical features: 

• Dimmability: In the days of the good old light bulb, everything was a little simpler. If you had a dimmer, you could dim or brighten the light source as you wished. However, this is not always possible with LED lamps. However, you don't have to buy on a whim, because you can see from the packaging or product description whether a lamp is dimmable or not.
• Color temperature: Whereas in the past, the choice of light color had to be specified in advance, many modern E14 LEDs can be easily dimmed from warm white to neutral white to cool white or daylight white. Multicolour E14 LEDs even create any desired color - depending on the purpose and mood.

Retrofit E14 LED
