GU10 LED

The designation GU10 refers to the name of the base of a light source. This is simply made up of the characteristics of the design: G for glass, U for U-shape (mechanical hold in the socket system) and 10 for the distance between the two metal pins in millimeters.
In contrast to the bayonet base, the pin base of GU10 lamps eliminates the need to turn the base to fix it in place.

George Westinghouse first developed the GU10 socket in 1892 and presented it a year later at the World's Columbian Exposition as an alternative to the conventional light bulb. 

The so-called bipin base standardization became the standard for halogen and LED lamps.

The advantages of GU10 LEDs

Converting to GU10 LEDs not only benefits you, but also the environment. Thanks to the long service life (25,000 hours) compared to conventional halogen lamps, there is no need to constantly buy and replace the light source. And when the time comes, the LED light is much easier to dispose of. You therefore protect the environment and save energy thanks to lower power consumption (up to 90% energy savings compared to conventional light bulbs). 

Thanks to identical designs, there are even no high costs for purchasing a new light. When replacing halogen lamps with GU10 LED lamps, the wattage of the old lamp must be taken into account. Luminous flux, beam angle, light color and area of application also play an important role when choosing a new GU10 LED.

Areas of application for GU10 LED light sources

As an alternative to halogen spotlights and conventional high-voltage reflector lamps, GU10 LEDs are often used in commercial applications. They are particularly suitable for the targeted illumination of goods or exhibits in stores or at trade fairs. Thanks to the light-emitting diode, the spotlights hardly develop any heat compared to halogen lamps. This means that even sensitive products can be illuminated without hesitation.
