Impact resistance

The marking of the impact resistance or also the degree of impact resistance gives a measure of the resistance of an enclosure for electronic equipment against impact stress. The degree of impact resistance is specified in the IK code, which is internationally standardized according to IEC 62262. There are a total of 10 degrees of protection, which are classified according to the impact energy measured in joules.

Depending on the IK protection type, the test is carried out using a pendulum, spring or free-fall hammer. For other requirements, for example the ball impact resistance of luminaires that are to be used in sports halls, testing is carried out in accordance with DIN VDE 0710-13. This test is performed using a ball the size of a handball.
